I am the proud (step) father of an eleven year old boy who struggled, on occasion, within the all-female environment of his local primary school and who does, from time to time, present an excess of attitude and a lack of desire to clean his room.
I was thoroughly chuffed to read an article in this morning's Times by Alice Thomson. Well done!

RR - my beloved and I raised 3 girls, now (thank God) grown and gone, healthy and happy. I always tell folks that girls are the best - until they hit about 11. Girl hormone swings are an absolute nightmare. Middle and high school were an endless battle, especially with their mother. (I was the softy...) I adore my daughters, but when they now laughingly tell me all the stuff they did that we had no idea about - I think I might have been happier with boys! I had no idea girls could be so devious! boys are pretty transparent! Blessings and good luck. Children are just a miracle, no matter what kind they are.
Thank you for that great link - what an interesting article...
I, too, have an 11 year old son, who (unlike his three sisters) would be quite happy if he never had to go to school again. He has never liked it. Yet he has an enquiring mind and loves to learn new facts. I just don't think our current curriculum is designed with boys in mind.
